If you ever get the opportunity to see an Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) live, I highly recommend it.

I have raced 3 myself, and have been a spectator or volunteer at many more – yet it doesn’t get old.

Each time, I am truly amazed and inspired by the people that make up this community.

Racers, volunteers, spectators, and event organizers are all in this together. We want to see each athlete cross the finish line, and we will do whatever it takes to get them there – whether it’s pointing them in the right direction after a tough swim, handing them a water bottle as they crest a hill, or high-fiving them at mile 18 of the run.

Ironman Wisconsin was no different. Initially, I went to Madison to spend time with and watch my community of friends’ race. In fact, three of my close friends were there (Joni was racing while Jessica and Tania were cheering her on with me), so it was a good excuse for a girls’ weekend.

During race weekend, my community naturally grew – I met my friends’ families and friends, triathletes’ who shared their stories and emotions with me, and volunteers and race organizers who kept racers safe, motivated, and moving throughout the 140.6 mile course. Even though I had a small role, I was apart of something much bigger.

To say I was inspired is an understatement.

So, to my Ironman Wisconsin community – thank you for a wonderful weekend and I look forward to many more with you.

Happy recovery racers!

Congratulations Firstgiving fundraisers and Ironman Wisconsin racers!
